This is my dwarf golden moray. It is almost impossible to take a picture of him in the tank so I figured I would add one of him acclimating. He is awesome and has such a cool personality.

    Welcome to 3reef

    Great looking tank

Hair algae comes from nitrate and phosphates being too high. Your stocking list looks to the problem, you are most likely overstocked. You will need to cut back on fish and feeding, use carbon and change it every two weeks, clean all equipment thoroughly and often. You may need to change the phosphate media more often and use more. Blow your rocks off the dislodge any detritus and do this often. Possible increase circulation to keep the detritus suspended so filtration can remove it.

Ok soI just tested all my water parameters and they are as follows:

    salinity: 1.025
    Ph: 8.01
    DKH 10.5
    Ca 460
    Mg 1320
    Phos: .005
    Nitrate: 18
    Nitrite: 0

I have purigen, carbon and phospate remover in the phosphate reactor. (as per one of the fish guys at the fish store that I work at) I change it out every two weeks. I do about a 30g water change every Sunday. I have 16 emerald crabs, WELL over 100 blue and red leg hermit crabs, astrea snails. And about 60-65 nassarius snails. Seriously every square inch of my tank you see either a snail or a crab. Plus I have the sea hares. I have even battled the hair algae problem in my 110 before I set up the 150. And then the only fish that was in that tank was the goby and shrimp pair and the clarkii that was it! I have tons of macro algae in the refugium with hopes that they would eat all th food and starve out the hair algae but it hasnt worked. Any other advice?

What kind of water are you using? RO/DI? If so, have you tested the TDS lately? That can be another cause of excess nutrients. Just throwing another thought out there...

I use RO/DI and change the cartridges about every 4-5 months. depending on how much water I make. I do not have a tds to measure it though.

Sneakerpimp, The assesor is pretty cool. He is not a tank raised one so he tends to swim upside along the rock as he would in the ocean. Its pretty cool. I have had him for about 4 years now. At first they tend to be very shy but he is pretty social now. He still mostly is out at night but can be spotted around feeding time and just poking his nose out of his cave. He has such a cool personality. They come tank raised now so they are much cheaper than when I bought him 4 years ago. If you dont hav any other basslets he would be a cool one to get. Make sure though that you have tons of hiding spots for him as in the wild they live in caves and stuff.
