I got a Hydor Koralia Nano 240 Aquarium Circulation Pump to put in my 16 Gallon Nano tank thinking that this is small enough shouldn't have a problem. get it in my tank turn it one and it was like a whirlwind in there. do i need to aim it differently? I don't think they make a smaller one. let me know what I need to do I have one bubble anemone and I think because of water flow he isnt doing well. Thanks

Try to put it as close to the surface as possible but low enough not to suck in air. I used that same pump In a smaller tank than that.

    Or...

Get a stronger return pump and eliminate the power head in the display section altogether.

Does it blast your sand around?

Hydor has a Pico pump. Aim the pump toward the surface and the opposite corner of the tank.

I would assume a pico pump would be too small by itself. When I mix salt in 5 gallon buckets I use a 900gph power head and it doesn't splash. I'm sure it would make a sand storm though. It's all about finding that sweet spot that blasts the corals and not the sand

The pico runs at 180gph IIRC.

180/16 is like 11x turnover. What return pump is being used in the tank? Usually I go 30-50x total turnover including return pump.

Remember. The ocean is quite hectic.

Depending on what you put in your tank, it may be close to 3 times too little flow.

16 gallon tank I would go a total of 500gph minimum.

It sounds pretty high but you could even go up to 800 depending on the fish you have or want. Of course some Lps would not like that much flow.

I have 915 gph in my 20 long, for reference (46x flow).
