I am almost done epoxying now. I am now coating the outside of the tank with the leftover epoxy.

So, the tank will be black sweetwater epoxy painted. The stand will be black as well.

What kind of normal paint should I use for the stand?

    Latex or oil based??

Just use latex, it's much easier to work with. I don't think there' s much of an advantage using oil vs. latex. I used latex and never had any problems.

I'm getting closer to epoxy paint time. Next I will order the glass, that should only be a day or 2 wait if i go with regular glass, perhaps a week if I go with low lead glass- aka starfire. Then I should be ready for a water test after the silicone sets for like 2-3 days.

I probably have only like 4 single batches of epoxy left. I might have more, but I am planning on over estimating how much I used. I did a lot of sanding today, especially on the front "frame" for the pane of glass. I wanted it to have no lip left from the tape barriers.

I need to let this coat dry, then get out the bondo and fill in screw divots in flush. Then I can epoxy paint.

It will be sweetwater epoxy painted black, because I thought the black would look nicer than the blue.

Maybe this week I can get the stand painted as well. Black latex exterior will be used because it is water resistant, if not water proof..

Oh yeah, I will get pics of the glass install. I know many folks are wondering how that will work.

Rubber bumpers, a half dozen tubes of silicone, and some weight to set on top of the glass to squeeze the rest out is really all it takes. Well that and a careful blue painter's tape application to the front 3/4" width of the plywood on the front "window" opening. The silicone apparently sticks so well to the epoxy/ epoxy paint that if you skip this step that you will need to re paint the front.

How much weight will you use to secure/clamp the glass? I'm interested in how much is needed for that. Too little, and you don't get a good seal/job done. Too much...and...well...it's a bunch of weight on a pane of glass. What do you think happens with that. Haha. Will you just put a bunch of weight/ bags of weight in the middle of the glass? Or along the edge where it contacts the wood?
