I think you may have it backwards. GE Silicone II has the additives which make it unsuitable for aquarium use. GE Silicone I is aqaruim safe, accdg to a few google searches. Infact, if one article is accurate, AGA aquariums uses GE Silicone I, rebranded for their aquarium manufacture.

I have used it many times before for reef use, as well have many others. I have no concerns about using it.

It is the same exact material / ingredients, s the GE aquarium sealant, but cheaper.

As far as anyone can tell, lawyers made GE put the "not for aquarium use" on the label a few years ago for legal reasons only.

I should post a pic of the sump that I have that was made with GE silicone 1 that is partitioned using glass. Right now only the center "chamber" is filled with some water - about 10g, and it holds just fine. The ends of this area were only secured with this silicone. fwiw, this sump was used on a 210g reef that was our ex president's of the WRS for several years on his amazing reef tank.

Naw, the GE1 does say not for aquarium use, but as I stated before, that is lawyer speak that was added for legal reasons. Either that or GE got sick of answering questions about it being reef safe by all of us DIY reefers.

    LOL

But yes, AGA uses GE1, and just has a different label on the tube and charges 12-15 dollars instead of 4.88 at HD.

Yeah, the room is a fish room, but I have a plan to put 2 of these 120g aquaculture troughs against the wall. One will be on the floor, as the sump, and the top one will be a frag tank. Discovery World uses these same ones. 120g, 8 feet long by like 24" wide and maybe a foot tall.

I plan on adding the frag tank and bigger better sump in the near future. For now the sump in the stand will work. I will measure the floorspace I have, and I might put the sump on a 2x4 frame on the ground to the left of the stand. Right where the one pic of the wall where I want to put the skimmer and ca RX. I don't want to put too much PVC return piping in, as the longer the return is, the less gph my pump will put out.

Jerry and possiibly Willie are stopping over tonight to help me with the glass, which is FINALLY ready to be picked up. I will run this by them as well.

Sparky, I went with the regular glass since the starfire was about 2x as expensive, and not as strong to boot. You won't notice that it is not low iron once it is filled.

What skimmer are you using again? Did I already ask this?

As for the GE stuff rebranded... everything is made by GE and is rebranded...lamps, RO membranes, silicone, you name it...

yep, you did, on WRS iirc... And I was sniffing 3 tubes of silicone today. What were you doing? ;)

it is an Aquatic Systems design 6.1 recriculating skimmer.

6" diameter, 27" tall with 1 recirculating genX 2400 pump, but I will mesh mod the pin wheel before I set it up on the woody.

THE GLASS IS IN THE TANK!!!

the front rim is taped to keep the silicone off of the epoxy paint where you don't want it. I learned this trick from other guys that have made woody's.

testing my measurements, and I guess the glass places' cuts;)

The glass is in place with 3 tubes of silicone holding it on

It was a little tougher than I thought, but one of our local reefers Jerry, was extremely helpful and the MAN to have on hand for this task.

That is too cool.... no words can say how awesome that is to build your own tank.

BTW nice touch with the captain... the leinenkugel? That was your victory drink I assume.

Very nice job.... what an accomplishment!!!
