    Yes, I understand it is not fun catching a fish with rocks in it. With long enough wait time (cycle time), I believe hardy fish such as goby will be okay.

    I didn't know that about the ammonia test kit. I will try to test at LFS that uses electronic test equipment.

    I suggested the microbacter to be used as a method to increase the bacteria and variety in your tank since you're starting with all dry rock. I wasn't suggesting it as a way to speed up the cycle. Hope that clarifies it :) Cycling is definitely something you want to do it right and the amount of time it takes can be quite variable.
