hello going to do my 1st water change, should i turn off my sump while i do the water change? is thier any easier way to get the sump going, instead of sucking water out of the u tube via a small hose? and does the water get poured in threw the tank or threw the sump?

Yes you do have to turn the pump off. I have seen water changes done with taking water out of the tank and water taken out of the sump. Depends on what works for you. You dont use a u tube. Thats for your over flow. The only time you remove the u tube is to clean it out but thats your decision. Just remove the water out of the tank or sump and replace it then turn everything back on.

Your U-tube should not lose suction when you turn the return pump off. Ever. If it does, you should address that problem before you have an overflow. Got a picture of your setup?

I host them on Photobucket, but I think you can upload them to the Gallery.
