    I assume you are planning on growing SPS?

    If so, cool. Think about temp though.. Personally I would go smaller ... one 250 or even a 150 depending on what you want to keep.

    Back in 1991-1992 I had a 40 breeder with a Hamilton fixture that had a 175 watt halide in it... that seemed like plenty back then..

    that should be fine, i had 2x 250 HQI over my 55g + 4 HO T5 actinics and everything did fine even though it was admittedly more than i should have had.

    if you go by the generic watts per gallon rule (incoming PAR proponent attack) thats 7.5 watts per gallon which is a good number

    sounds good to me... personally, i would do that (or two SE 175 watt due to more bulb options) on a 40 if i wanted it to be sps dominant or else a grow out tank
