Yeah, they are totally clumsy. Except when just pinching off the rock and then straight to the mouth. they're pretty good at that, 2 claws at a time. But yeah, whenever somethings floating by, they will fall backwards off of rocks and not even come close. ;D
I started putting some seaweed on a clip and they love it. But they are messy eaters, along with my hermits. The hermits remind me of ants at a picnic.

I also have 2 porcelain crabs, and one has been holding out on molting too. It's all dirty looking as well.

Mine swing and miss all the time, with both arms (except the one-armed one).
I don't give mine pieces of algae very often because they grab it all excited, eat a little bit of it, then toss it into the current like litterbugs tossing burger wrappers out a car window LOL.

If the cup idea doesn't work, you can try and tease him with some target feeding until he jumps of the rock or just lure him straight into a net or jar while target feeding. Mine have learned that my little feeding pipet contraption means food. They grab onto the tube with one claw and pull the food out of the tube with the other claw, pretty funny to watch. Good luck with the catch.

Upon the mysterious death of my YWG I've decided Godzilla is the only possible culprit and he's got to go. I'm trying the cup trick. I'll let you know if it works or not in case you decide to get rid of yours as well.

I have yet to remove mine. But, I have been using a clip with dried seaweed on it. They cant resist it. And it takes them a good 20 seconds to rip it off the clip. It will be no problem to catch them now. They don't run even from my hand when they are interested in the seaweed. You might want to try it.

I recently added one of these to my 90 for a little bubble algae. Its been my experience that the females are a better choice as they seem to be less aggresive then the males.8)

How on earth can you tell what they are?

To edit my last post guess who popped his head out today? My YWG. Guess he's still alive after all, though I think I'm still going to get rid of Godzilla. I'd like to get some smaller shrimp.

    Look at them from underneath.
Females have a soild plate that covers the eggs. the males have a narrow flap that covers their *****.
Wel, I used the proper term but guess it set off the alarm.

I think I have to catch godzilla now to be able to tell. ;) Anyhow, put the cup in around noon. Caught two hermits but no godzilla. We'll see what happens tonight. I did see him take a couple swipes at Rorschach (my B&W clown) which clinched his fate. If this cup thing doesn't work I'll see if he goes for the Seaweed, though he seems to prefer meatier foods now.

I just caught mine and the best way I found it a water bottle with the top cut off and then turn it over and put it in the bottle so the part you drink out of it now facing the bottom, then just put something smelly in there and you have him. :) I caught about 3 hermits 10 snails the emerald crab and my starfish haha, it was packed.
