    your hydrometer that has a specific gravity measurement?
    most hydrometers dont go below 1.000 because thats less dense then water(only ones for chemicals should do that, not hobbyiest ones).

    are you sure you not reading parts per thousand measurement of salinity?

    How to read a hydrometer?

    It does not say 0.0

    With just tap water it don't move.

    There's about 1/2" until the 1.000 mark.

    Brand=Marineland Labs/Instant Ocean Hydrometer

    I wish i could read this thing.

    Salinity=ppt=0-40
    Specific Gravity=1.000-1.032

    Sweet spot=28-32 for Salinity
    Sweet spot=1.020-1.024 for Specific Gravity
    So at 1.022 it's at 29.8.
    Very confusing to me.

    thats funky, i would buy a new one if it was mine.
    some times i have to shake mine to loosen up the hand.

    either its off the correct measurement, or somehow you water company has figured out how to make less water fill the same space to save money lol.

    i would definitely verify you salinity at a lfs, you may end up with 1.03- something in your tank when you though it was correct

    btw i have same brand and it reads dead on 1.000

    Ok, i retested the tap and it does move to 1.00. I swear it wasn't always like that.
