the site calculator shows sps to be in optimal zone with an mp10 and mp40. so gonna go this route. Now to figure out how thick my glass is to see if i can use the mp10. hmm. what is normal glass thickness of a 75gal?

Depends on manufacturer. Mine is 3/8" thick. I have seen some (AGA I think) at 1/2" thick. I am building a 75 gallon, and will be using 2 MP10W ES pumps, a 500GPH (or thereabouts) return line, split over the middle, and 2 3/4" Sea Swirls at 900GPH each, closed loop.

Be careful to check tank thickness with mp10's. Between the thickness and the torque they loose magnetism on tanks over 3/8" (but dont quote me on that exact number)

I completely agree with that quote!I just recently bought an MP40 for my 180 and I love the undertow and how it cleans up the substrate and live rock, I will be buying another. One thing I noticed is that if you run them over 70% output they will get noisier and will run hot. I have been told by Ecotech if they get too hot they will shut down and start back up on their own when they cool off

With my 180 the overflow is on the rear left corner and my MP40 is on the right side blowing towards center, the current stops in the middle at the 3 ft mark and thats at 100% output. The detritus still makes it self to the overflow eventually.

I am thinking of buying an MP60 for the right side and moving the 40 to the left next to the overflow. My thought is I can run the 60 at a lower output and still get flow to the overflow. I am thinking about 50% out put for both the 40 and 60
