2 part snail?

    I have been finding some weird flat like snails in my tank. When I try to pry them off they seperate a section of their body and leave it behind and I throw it out also. There is no picture but some one can tell me what they are. Good or Bad?

    Half shell + splitting = stomatella. That's their response to threats, leaving half of themselves behind for the predator and GTFO.

    This saltwater snails body is half covered with a shell. When attacked it can drop its tail like a lizard. These snails are known to eat algae.

    Grinder, that's what I call 'em too. Had no idea they separate, but then again I've never tried to pry one off of anything...

    Me either,never messed with them,i just let them be,never hurt anything that i saw,but very interesting about them splitting.One of my favorite snails.
