I love ca reactors. Some of the best money you can spend in this hobby. Whenever we set-up a reef system that's over 80g we always recommend reactors. Properly done, they are simple to upkeep and are highly stable.

What's your opinion on using a reactor on tanks under 80G but will be SPS dominant w/ clam(s)?

I agree that you probably shouldn't DIY one... unless you have the means and desire to prototype more than a few in case the original design should fail to do what you planned for it to do. It takes a good deal of understanding of flow dynamics and pressure to get the balance to work just right to make a CA reactor work really well and efficiently, IMO. That is why I'd rather leave it up to the experts who have put the trial and error into creating a reactor that is known to work.

I have heard so many good things about Geo reactors, and my first hand experience is that mine works great, and they also have AMAZING customer support... I bought my reactor used, which got damaged in shipping from the seller... I told George from Geo's reef about this, and asked him what could be done to fix it, and he said ship it to him, and he fixed it for free!!! I was very impressed.

Here is a prett nice one for a good price. To me it even makes a DIY hard to waste the time building at this price. Comes with a Italian Sicce pump and would be perfect for a 100g tank.

Greg, since you've popped in here...

I tried to track down your posts on RC after you had switched to dosing to find why you switched back to a CaRx, but I was unable to find anything. Could you please enlighten us?

I really switched back because of the massive amount of dosing needed to keep up my tank now that I got my sps back. It just got too tedious. 8oz of each part A and B it just becomes a pain. I'll consider dosing a smaller tank but not with the 225g. Although it's still a tough call as I have 3 other calcium reactors sitting around here.

I actually just fired up the reactor a copuple hours ago. Luckily the AquaC reactor is so big, it will be more than capable of keeping up with the SPS demand. I got 4 jars of media in it so far and still can add more than one more.

Here is a pic of it right now.

Jeeez. So many people against the DIY I guess I should just buy built. Thanks for the warnings you all. If it had only been one or two I'd ignored you but when everyone that brings up the DIY says no I gotta listen.
