This is a 2 part question.. i have a 50 gal set up with a SeaClone SKimmer. i have noticed that recently that there is a film on the top of my water throught the entier tank. What is this cause by and what can i do to get rid of it.? i do have a skimmer so not sure what to do.

#2 My SeaClone Skimmer mixes a lot of water within itself with air bubbles. DOes this oxegenat the water? and if so is it still necessary to have a air stone directly in the tank itself?

I had that problem too with my water... I didnt have a protein skimmer but if you got a powerhead running it should clear this film up (from what I'v seen) I put the air o my powerhead for a day and everything looks good now

Protein Skimmers are one of the best oxygenators of water and very beneficial for that reason alone. As SpngBob indicated the film is do to a lack of water flow. A couple of power heads, if you don't already have them, should do the trick

Oils and such are always going to accumulate on the surface unless you have surface skimmer like a prefilter/overflow. Try to get one. Agitating the surface does help though, powerheads or spraybars right below the surface are good for that.

Only film is in the return chamber from my sump. Very minimal and no problem.
