Can you put a brittle star and a serpen star in the same tank? I do not want to keep him there for long. Just having some trouble with my 55 gallon and was going to move the briitle into my 34 where I have a serpent star. Both are about 4-5 inches across

Probably not a great idea in a 55.

Really? I never realized there was a potential problem. Which is a threat to the other?

I'm going to disagree here and advice "proceed with caution" as they are nearly the same size.
This would be a rare occasion in which I'd advise overfeeding the tank, as stars eat detritus, and you don't want them competing.
During this time monitor your parameters carefully as overfeeding can cause parameter spikes.
Increased water changes may be necessary.
This should be considered a short term solution (less than a month)
Attention should be paid to all other aspects of tank stability, including CUC, lighting etc.

    good luck

I have both in a 24gal nano.. I have no problem with anything.. ITs kinda neat at feeding time to see all the arms come out looking for food..

    BEst of Luck...

Like Salsalito, I had multiple species of brittle stars and serpent stars in my 55 at the same time, and they never seemed to bother each other. I guess it's possible though, since one of the serpent stars killed several of the non-echinoderm residents.

    Cheers,

I have a very large brittle star and 2 serpent stars in my 46. The serpent stars seem to hang out in the same area together. I've had one of the serpent stars and the brittle star for many months. I added a red serpent star about 2 months ago - they all seem to do fine together.

Interesting....I had always been told not to have more than one in a small tank as they can grow large and sometimes fight.

in my 90 , ive got 4 brittle\serpent stars. all different colors , and never a problem with them. they all move around to different parts of the tank , so no set territories. i didnt realize there was a possibility of problems.
