When I was running my 55 gallon tank (begun about a year ago), I started with a 2 bulb, t5ho fixture. And it seemed fine. I didn't have any SPS. About 6-7 months later I purchased a used 4 bulb Nova Extreme t5ho on Craigslist. It is the old flat reflector style. I then started purchasing some SPS, Montis, Acros, Birds Nest. They seemed to do well.

    Bulbs, front to back:
    ATI Blue Plus
    ATi aquablue
    aTI blue Plus
    KZ Fiji Purple

A month ago, I upgraded to a 90 gallon. A couple of the SPS took the move hard, but seem to be bouncing back.

I cannot at this time buy a larger fixture. 2 kids in college. But I know that with the deeper water, my coral would probably benefit from more light. So I just placed my old 2 bulb t5ho on the tank behind the 4 bulb light. not ideal, but it should work, right? They fit well on the tank. The 2 bulb fixture has who knows how old Current bulbs right now. An actinic and a 10k. I will purchase another Blue Plus and an Aquablue in a few weeks.

    Good plan?

    In theory it should work

So someone else is doing it too, they seem to say it is working.
