Have a 120 L (5ft) tank I'm currently building as (currently) a mainly lps & soft tank. Was wondering if 3200 gph on each wall would potentially turn this tank into a whirlpool or if it might be just right, was trying to decide between that or 2 1600 gph powerheads?? any ideas?

if u have fine sand i would yes you have hurricane katrina in it..but bare bottom or some more coarse sand would be ok....as long as u can make them to wear there not blowing directly on corals then its straight..

wait 3200 on each side would be all over your floor...i would put 2 1000gphs in it..thats around 40ish..and i find all corals benefit with that number

That might be OK, you will need to test it and see. I would suggest getting larger grained sand as saints said to keep from having a sandstorm. Aim the pumps parallel to each other to get the best random flow.

I have a 5 foot tank myself with two Evolutions 1400's. I have 330 lbs of Southdown sand 5 to 6" deep and the 1400's are the first powerheads I have owned that will move sand at the opposite side of the tank. 3200's might be too much.

eek....well, we'll see...if need be, i can take the impeller out of one of them and cut them down to 1600 each...might not be a bad idea?? or possibly trim down the impellers, but I'd hate to get them off balance...

That might be a bit much, I run 4x 1400, and 2x750, in my 120. lol but the flows everywhere and everyone loves it.!

I run 2 koralia #5 Magnums, and 3 #3's the center pump always on, the other 4 on program flow of around 30 seconds each oposite of each other.

the 5's are on the ends and the other 3's on the back wall- it litteraly creates wave's in the tank- but not so much that it over powers the fish.

I have a tall tank so I need the powerful flow to reach the bottom. I think 3200 would be to much for your needs.

    works really well for me.

I would say go for it. You never know if you'll ever upgrade to sps, in which case, the flow would be awesome
