    Hi, i currently running a 40 gallon reef tank and just finished building my 20 gallon sump!!
    my question is what overflow GPH rate do i use?? for my 40 gal to my 20 gal sump!?
    and what return rate do i have to use for the return pump!?
    i am planning to use pvc pipes to run the whole thing!! LMK please ThankYou!;D

    If you are planning on putting your skimmer in the sump you want a return pump flow rate a little slower than the skimmer pumps flow rate. Get an overflow thats rated for more flow than your return pump and you will be set.

    For the overflow get something with a 1" drain, that should be around 600 gph. For a return pump, go for something thats at least 800 and add a ball valve to the return line. you might not need the valve depending on how high your pumping the water and how its routed, but its still great to have for maintenance.
