I am sure this has been answered before but I'm new here so bear with me. I have a 20 gallon tank. Has been up and running for about 4 months. I would like to add corals but is the original lighting that came with the tank ok or do I need something else? As I read about lighting it gets confusing about which I should have any suggestions would help

buy original you mean those plastic strips with one flourscent bulb, then yes you need something else,
buy a t5 fixture go for 4 watt per gallon, so get something around 80 watts and you can keep about anything

I have an 18 gallon tank(which i think is really 20 gallons but o well...) and i use 2 of the 24in. Nova extreme 2x24 watt fixtures. Definitely enough light to keep my acros happy, in fact I have burnt 2 of them and they were like 6 inches away from the light. I think a lot of people really underestimate the true power of T5's.

I just have 2 65 watt pcs over my 20 gallon. Its plenty of light for coral that I like maybe not so much SPS but still good for softies and LPS
