2010 Aquatraders/Odyssea Metal Halide Review (HIGH RES)

I recently ordered a Odyssea Metal Halide and decided to do a review.
SERVICE: A; I ordered on Saturday, Monday was Labor Day so no deliveries. Shipped Tuesday came here Thursday by UPS GROUND from California. Here is what the box looks like. It's basically a box inside of a box.




The fixture came in perfect shape, nothing broken. There is no instructions. But it simple, unscrew the 2 screws on the PC and slide the legs on. You're able to convert the legs to 18" or 12" wide. I got 1 250 hqi DE 15k MH bulb, 2 96 watt actintics and 4 dual LED moonlights (8 LED). There is 1 fan and 2 vents. The fan is on the left. The fan is not that loud but that's maybe my protein skimmer is louder than that. Also, the ballast is warm but not like OMG MY HOUSE IS GOING TO BURN DOWN warm. My temps stay's below 84.

CONCLUSION
If you were going to buy the Coralife metal halide($500), Odyssea would be better. You save $200 and can always upgrade the fixture later and still have money saved. Also, you can't go wrong with the fixture being $219 from http://shop.aquatraders.com/

I want one of these fixtures but my tank has a center brace at the top made out of plastic so don't think it would work for me unless i some how got rid of the brace or added acrylic in its place... Nice photos... So would you recommend this brand to a friend???

 

is your halide bulb yellow? every oddyssea halide I have ever bought or seen burns yellow even though its a 14k/15k bulb.

 

When the metal halide starts up it's yellow than goes to it's 15k color. I can do a video tomorrow. But no my bulb is not yellow.

that is 36" and my tank is 30" would it still work?

 

Maybe, I used my old PC on glass and it worked just fine. Metal Halide is focus light I think.
