My g/f has a ford escape, I think an '08. It's nice. She has the four cylinder which helps with gas, she doesn't do anything with it, just a means of transportation.

That's what a car is for to get me from point A -> B with no problems!

What boats do your friends have?

An escape can tow a decent amount, until you get like over 3500 lbs of tow eight. That is if you get the v6. FWD and AWD v6s can tow 3500 lbs with the tow package, but 4 cylinders can only tow 1500 lbs. Seeing you are in FL, I can assume many boats that would be ocean ready would be well over 1500 lbs, and more closer to 3500 lbs.

These are great SUV's, the v6 gets great mpg as well, and all are very reliable.

You are very lucky to have your parents get you a new SUV at your young age. Be grateful.

It became too expensive for me to continue diving without any real income while I've been in college.

I forgot to mention, don't expect to do any really hauling with that SUV. It simply doesn't have the weight or power to handle towing a boat I'd feel safe taking outside of a sheltered or bay area. You'd need to step up at least into a Explorer. My dad has a 21' Mako that I don't feel very comfortable taking out past site of land, and that's in the gulf of Mexico. And that takes every bit of his 4.6 Expedition to muscle around.

I'd say 1 yes. 2 would require the v6 and awd based on my ranger experiences... (I'm considering getting them out of the water when you're done too)

I won't say what you should do... there are plenty of options. Like just towing one ski ;)

A 4 cylinder escape will have no issue towing 2 jet skis. Jet skis tow very easily unlike a boat of the same total weight.

I used to tow a 2 place with 2 sit down 500 + lb skis behind my mustang that was rated fro 1500 tow rating tops. Getting out of the water with them might cause a little issue with fwd only.

Personally if I were you, I would get the v6. Probably not the AWD, because of where you live, but if you actually plan on towing anything close to 3000 lbs, get the awd, and obviously the v6.

IME, the v6 gets very good mpg's and you would miss the extra oomph that the 6 provides over the 4 cylinder.

If it is between a xlt v6, or a ltd 4 cylinder, go with the 6. Unless you do a lot of hwy running, the 6 won't hurt as much as you think at the pump, and resale is much better with 6 cylinder motors versus 4 cylinders.
