I'm about to build a 3 chambered sump/fuge combo (1 for skimmer, 1 for return, 1 for fuge).

I will be running an ASM-G1 skimmer with about a 12"x12" footprint.

I've looked through the site and found different ideas and plans for sumps.

I was just looking for a good plan that someone has used with success. I'd like the fuge section to include a DSB, some chaeto, and maybe some mangroves...

    Thanks!

here is my 29 gallon. (i think its the same footprint as the 20L, just taller). if your stand is tall enough i would go with a 29 anyways.

I would just use the simple 3 chamber design. Mine for instance is left to right: 9 inch deep skimmer and return section, then a bubble trap with 1 inch seperating the baffles.. My center section is the return, and is drilled to get the water pickup level as low as possible incase I have a problem with my ATO. Next is my fuge which is about 12 gallons and has a single glass pane that goes almost all the way to the top of the tank. In my fuge I have a DSB and run cheato and mangroves.. Let me see if I can get a pic on my build thread

    Thanks, that helps some...

And thank you too...I'd love to see a pic!

The guy at my LFS is trying to get me to use a 30g long, which I have space for and am open to, but it costs like twice as much as a 20g long...I just can't see spending $80 on a 30g tank that is going to basically be destroyed....

well.. i did a lot of reading on this before i suprisingly fell upon an amazing deal on a 20g eshopps sump/fuge so i stoped there.. but if i did end up making it i would set it up as follows: a first section "just" big enough for your skimmer, partition 1 from the top down to a 2 inch gap at bottom for the water to flow threw, partition 2 from bottom up as high as youd like your fuge to be (those 2 partitions create your bubble trap), then however wide you want your fuge to be for the next section then another partition from bottom up with a 2 inch slit about 4 inchs up( or however deep you want your sandbed) so the water can flow threw from the top of the 2nd partition down to the 2 inch slit so it passes threw your cheato/mangroves and not just from the top to top.. leaving the last section being just big enough for your return... check this out though.. im not sure if you realize evaperation shows in the last section of your sump and no longer in your DT, since you have the "slit" evaperation shows in both last sections so you dont have to have a big return section to compensate for evaperation.. hope this helps, its the best i can describe it without a picture.

goodlock, there is alot of great information throughout these forums.

sounds about right 1.5 inch baffels for your skimmer is what ive heard so that there are no micro bubbles. glue in some glass pieces to brace the divider for your DSB so you dont have a blow out. other than that I dont have any other hints

also i would not have your skimmer flow into your fuge I know i push alot more water through my sump than i want running through my fuge so I like the return in the middle idea

Ok, looks like I got my hands on a used 30 long for $40 and will be using it instead, so I have much more room to work with. Here's a question though...I won't have the tank in hand until Sunday, but I'd like to go ahead and have the pieces of cut glass in order to silicone the baffles.

On a typical 36Lx12Wx17T 30 long, what size baffles would you have cut? I know I don't want them pressing glass against glass, so I'd need a bit smaller. Anyone have experience and have measurement suggestions?
