    Will 20k MH bulbs actually make corals color up or does it just make them look that way?

    Its a blue hue but more than likely the actnics help with the color in conjunction with MH's IMO.

    Yes, it's called photoinduced isomerisation. Different light spectrums can affect chromophores and fluorescent proteins in corals.

    couldnt have said it better myself!
    You will notice the color differences between brands... and if you document it close enough, even verrrry slightly between small irregularities in bulbs of the same brand
