It's up! And it's dark! Photos tomorrow.

I'm going to put my cactus around this thing. Did I mention we're going solar?

ROFL!!!! No you did not mention you are going solar! I've never really looked into solar power, what would the initial cost be to set up a system strong enough to power all your tanks, or are you trying to power part of the house as well????

Not sure of the whole initial cost yet, to be honest. The solar guy came and inspected and will bring back some numbers to us and talk some more. Solar will basically run the tanks. I would run the whole house with it, if I could, but there's not enough roof and sun in the right "direction" for that.

I love that you are doing solar. I was wondering just today if there is any cognitive dissonance involved with an energy consuming hobby that also involves a love for our dwindling reefs.... With solar, there doesn't have to be. As for people that run their tanks off of coal fired power plants... I'm not sure about that... :-/

Still need to get the chiller and a second water container. That's a 55g tank and above it will go my Genesis system.

We're going to throw a little insulation in there for good measure...... reflective paint on the roof.

solar is going to have a large upfront cost, but depending on the number of panels and the cost of electricity in CA, it may be worth it. You may also want to look into Micro Wind turbines (they rotate horizontally instead of vertically). Seems to be a promising new technology to supplement solar for home use.

It's not just the average cost of electricity here, it's also the fact that I trickle over into the 5th tire. The previous owners were in the 1st. :-/.
We're thinking about leasing, as we are looking into whether or not panels are covered in an case of a damaging earthquake.

For us, it's the right thing to do. Especially when we flip the switch on the store O.O
