Evidently some of the rock smells, but I have a summer cold and can't smell anything. Good timing!

Ya, I forgot one of the rocks was from a tear down tank. It's not enjoying the freshwater, I assume.

Just went through the 42 pages...looks like a lot has happened over the last 2 years. It may have convinced me not to attempt the dream tank I envision for the future haha.
Excited to see how this turns out.

So your doing a freshwater test with rock and Sand? Is it RO/DI water? Are you going to add salt later?

There are lots that happened that don't pertain to her build. Don't let that stop yours.

It's RO/DI so we plan on adding the salt once we're happy with the way it's running. there's no substrate yet. Most of the rock was LR that was dried (by us), but we did add a couple of "live" pieces as we needed some specific shapes/sizes to make the structures happen.

When we designed this setup, we were keeping FOURTEEN setups of various sizes, so it was definitely a project tank from the beginning. During that time, we had several "life" issues that slowed us up as well. We've also been VERY picky as to the equipment setup, as well as the rockwork since it has to look good from three sides (being a peninsula setup).

We STILL haven't decided on a chiller and lighting yet...I'm hoping we can score a deal on a Teco chiller, but I still dunno about the lighting. LED's probably make the most sense in terms of power consumption, but neither of us are really "thrilled" by them yet.

That's what I was referring to. Glad progress is being made. We here at 3reef miss you.
