I don't think it's one you would ever guess, besides the fact it was human error. It was 0330 and we were about to head to bed when I realized we still had ghost shrimp in the LFS bag. So, we went to the sump shed, got some water directly from the RO/DI, stuck the tubing back in the sump for safe keeping with plans to turn the water off as we went in the house...... ya, you know where this is going.

Fast forward to 0830. I step out back and see a river pouring into the drain. I run to the sump shed.... oh oh. Seems we didn't turn it off when we went the 10 steps from the shed to the house. With such a big journey, you can see how we forgot along the way. Now, 5 hours doesn't seem like a whole lot of water, but our system can produce 300gpd. Let's hope the salinity drop didn't mess with the cycle too much.

It's all gooood. You gain more from your own lessons learned than posts read.

    There were several lessons here...
    - don't use the sump as a place to put the RO/DI tubing so water doesn't drip on the floor.
    - get the shrimp out of the bag immediately upon arriving home.... 12 hours earlier.
    - don't drink and reef.

You forgot "Don't try to do ANYTHING meaningful at 3:30 AM except crawl into bed..."

Any suggestions on the best way of opening the tops of the barrels to insert a mag pump? The smaller pumps dont fit in the present holes as I had hoped, so I might as well go bigger. These buckets are outside of the sump shed, under the elements.

LOL! I'm looking for suggestions on cutting into it so that it can still be avoid any rain going in there or what not, but still be accessible if I should ever need to get in there.

Gonna see if I can find a bulkhead to accommodate one of the smaller pumps. I could use a bulkhead and a cap and then drill holes in the cap to run the lines I need to. Something along the lines of that is what I'm looking for.

How are the ends attached? Is the plastic fused? They can't be molded as one piece; somehow the ends are connected or fused. Just wondering if that might be exploitable somehow.
