210gal return pump? Maybe eheim 1262 or blowhole 1450?

Setting up a fowl 210gal that has the Aqueon Megaflow kit (1" drains and 3/4" returns). Sump sits directly under tank and the stand is 3' tall so head loss is nill. Pump would not initially be used for anything other than a return line. I was considering these two pumps for the return eheim 1262 or blowhole 1450 (I realize that's an odd comparison since it's internal vs external). First off I have heard conflicting info on how much gph I can run with the two 1" drains... What's the reality of that? For the money I'm leaning towards the blowhole since I would have 3 gph options on tap with the single pump. Thoughts? Thanks David Sent by Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Tapatalk 2

Personally, I prefer external pumps for my builds. I have a project going now, and I'm seriously looking at the Blowholes. I've spoken at length to the rep at last year's RAP, and was pretty impressed (they had them running at the show).

Your head loss isnt nil. You said 3' to the bottom of the stand, so that sounds like 3' there. now where does the flow exit from a pipe or loc line? I doubt it exits at the bottom of the tank. Prob comes out at another 2' at the top on, so there's 5' right there. 5' of head loss with the eheim 1262 looks like it drops to about 700 gph. I didnt look at the blowhole pump ratings.

As for drains... 1" is 960 gph per drain, so 1920 gph. GPM/GPH Flow based on PVC Pipe Size, ie, How much water can flow through Sch 40 Pvc Pipe Size 1/2" 3/4" 1" 1.5" 2" 2.5" 3" 4" 6"

I'm not familiar with either pump. I have other reflo pumps and recommend them.

I use a 1262 on a 190g tank with 3/4" returns and 1" drains as well; it's the perfect size pump.

I have ehiem 1262s and they are awesome. great pump for the $. reliable and quiet.

I have a few of the largest BH series. I like them and think they are great. pretty sure the units I have are the "tester" models. As I got them a few months back on a intro promo. theyve had a few minor kinks, but nothing that couldnt be fixed. great pump, i like the multiple settings, fairly quiet,

    True...

I probably do have at least 5 ft of loss. Maybe an eheim will be a little weak...?

i'd go bigger. You want about 3-5x turnover through your sump or what your skimmer is rated to handle. So that about 1000 gph.

After some reading I just realized that I can't run an external pump unless I drill the sump (I had originally thought you could run pvc up and over in to the sump to draw from). An internal pump would be much easier in my situation....
