So Ive had a few bumps in the road. I traveled to AZ to visit my family over Christmas. I was gone for two weeks. My roommate was to watch over my tank during this time. He has done this in the past and I trust him to do so. Three days into my trip he FaceTimes me and its not good news. My coral were dying. My birdsnest were the first to go. I lost all colonies of BN. My Montis were next to suffer followed by my very large hammer coral. This of course was due to low alk levels from what I can tell. My roommate doesnt know how to test, so I cant be 100% sure, but my intuition tells me this is the cause. I instructed him to do water changes every day until my return. The tank started to make a turn for the better. It is now pretty stable and needs quite a bit of work. I'll continue to keep 3reef updated but until then, here are some pictures....
Man that sucks civic. I hope things turn around for you my friend. Looks like your monti will bounce back
ouch! Sorry to hear that Civic. I hope all gets better soon. What caused a drop in alk that would cause that much damage in such a short time?
Alk has always been my enemy. I have struggled for years to maintain it where it should be. I am confident it will bounce back and return better then ever!
that's the spirit civic! so sorry to see this happen - it is always so scary for me when I'm gone for any length of time. I'm sure it will be back better than ever!
Man, I'm sorry to see that. So frustrating. Given your obvious skill, I doubt it will be long before it's back to the drool-worthy coral garden it was before. Hell, even with the damage, those coral are still drool worthy.
