Thanks. Its just upsetting to me because I have had that monti for about six or seven years. It started as a 1" disc and the thing was huge. It has been a tough 2016 for the reef tank, but I will change that. I am moving in a better direction forward, even though its a struggle now. Dennis, I wouldn't let my bad experience of transition lighting discourage you from making the change. I love the hydras.
Man, this really sucks. I was worried about the same thing when i switched to LEDs last year, still probably don't have the LEDs high enough for fear of the same thing. The Monti frag i got from you is still small but has recently really started to grow. When it is big enough to frag a piece, it is yours.
I had not been making much progress for quite a while. I attribute that to not being able to keep my parameters stable enough. Since adding the dosing pumps and ditching the Kalk, I have seen some good growth on the montipora. They are actually doing so well I ordered some acros from Battle Corals I should get next week.
Feeding time... Started to break off the dead monti...(top down) Started to break off the dead monti...(front shot) Just a pile of rubble now...
Thought I'd give a little update... With my new AI Hydra 52hd+ LED lights bleaching all my plate coral and killing off my hammer and frogspawn, I have decided to do some spring cleaning. I started the process of nuking a large majority of my rocks. Most were covered in gsp and palys that had taken over. The palys will be removed all together, the gsp will remain only on my overflow columns. My process is to remove a few rocks at a time, nuke them, clean them, then replace with exist rock in my tank. This will take some time and be quite a process. It is a big change, I know, but its for the better. I will bounce back and my tank will be better then ever. Also I can pick up some more sticks from tidal gardens. This is for the better of the future of my tank!!!
