I don't know that you want/need the UV - it really is a nice one :)...for a reef tank though. Although one thing I've learned in this hobby - there are many ways to skin the cat. If you understand what you're using it for, then go for it!

I'm worried about the fish bioload my wife wants to maintain in here. My thinking was better to be safe than sorry.

you're going to hate this or love this advice, not sure which :) if you really want a coral tank and your wife really wants a fish tank, you may be best off keeping a FOWLR and then a separate "coral" tank.

Not at all, trust me I hear ya. Things like this have to be "shown" to her. When she's replacing a coral of mine because her dog ate it, then I slide the"coral only" tank in there.

OK so I'm a little concerned this morning. I made all those changes yesterday, Added new plumbing for the return pump, UV sterilizer and started using it. Today my corals aren't as open as they have been. Is there some residual stuff that could have been in the PVC or the UV, or is that the UV is doing its job and cleaning the water? Is this like they are acclimating all over again?

i also replaced my socks. Typically i sit them in diluted bleach for awhile then rinse them very heavily with the hose. this last swap i also ran them on the extra rinse cycle in the washer and then allowed to dry. Is it possible some residual crap from the washer is on them?

ok so i bought brand new socks and put those on. I have tested all my params and they are great. I am doing a water change right now....15g into it as we speak. Corals are still closed up and fish are all perfectly fine.
