Can anyone tell me what vendor is the best place to buy a 225 gallon glass aquarium, reef ready, for the best price? There are places on the internet that would ship to the airport by ground or air for me to pickup.

Which would be better to go with a glass or acrylic tank? I know acrylic has its advantages mainly lightweight but I can go with either.

    I just built a new tank stand with the dimensions of 72L x 26W x 36H? So I know it would be perfect for a 225 as the dimensions are 72L x 24W x 30H.
I have all of the accessories and parts needed to get it going. Just need the tank.

I have a 150 gallon I am selling and would use the monies to buy the 225.

glasscages.com is probably the best price, but from what I hear if something goes wrong your probably not gonna be compensated.

At that size I would get acrylic.

Acrylic is lighter, stronger, maintains heat better and is clearer. It does, however, scratch fairly easy and is much more expensive. I wouldn't touch one for a new reef....unless I had a ton of time on my hands and go VERY slowly at the start. Nothing worse then a LR scratch on the front that grows algae in what seems record time:eek:.

Just to make sure you realize, a 225 tank is a ton to a ton and a half which is heavier than a Lotus Elise car. I'm not saying you can't build a stand that can hold it, but make sure it is built very strong.

flaring afro is right, but also not just your stand but where you are locating the tank in your place. 225 gallon tank x 10 pounds a gallon roughly is aboot 2250 lbs. now when adding live rock, your sump, etc your tank will prob weigh around 3000 lbs. now as he said you will need a strong stand. but also thats alot of dead weight in one spot in your house, if you bring lets say 6 people over to see your new tank and each person weighs approx 175 lbs. thats around an extra 1000 lbs. 4000lbs on a single spot with wood joists in your house could have problems.
