I hope you don't plan on keeping that eel - your tank isn't anywhere near big enough. I'd trade it in for your next fish.

did i read this wrong? your using bio fuel and bio pellets? if so choose one, they should not be used together.
also imo your headed for another crash using bio pellets. do your self and fish a favor get a oxygen test kit. you should to be testing that while running any form of carbon.
some say they do well with bio pellets but there are more problem tanks from them than good. its just most don't want to admit to their mistakes.
i had a tank crash from pellets lost corals and fish. you really dont have control with them. if you do decide to stay with them go very slow and stop using bio fuel with them.

PO4 eliminator also should be cut out while using the pellets. until you reach 0 nitrates and still show phosphates when testing, than you could add a phosphate removal product

I know many people who have been using Bio pellets with great success and I have been using them on my 90 for the last six months with fantastic results. When used properly they can be of great benefit IMO.iT IS VERY HARD TO BLAME ONE PRODUCT FOR A TANK CRASH AND ALOT OF TIME WE ASSUME WE KNOW EXACTLY why our tanks fail BUT IN ALL HONESTY THE sw AQUARIUM IS SO COMPLEX THERE REALLY IS NOT A SURE FIRE WAY FOR us TO KNOW THE REASONS WHY SOME THINGS HAPPEN.Sorry for the caps. The fact that many people run pellets in healthy aquariums long term is proof enough for me that they do indeed work. With that being said I agree with Afro that eel is not a good choice and should be removed. Not only is the tank too small but they make a mess of the water and you will continue to have nutrient issues with it in there.

I would stop adding all of the addatives...get a test kit for Mg., CA, and ALK and dose those up to the right levels over time using a 3 part kit (Bulk reef supply) and then just keep those in check. All that stuff you are adding is not helping and likely hurting (take it from me, a former reef additive addict). Also agree 1000% on the eel - it needs to go. That tank is not big enough for that critter. Not fair to the eel, and it is going to really cause nutirent issues for the rest of your tank.

bottom line is pellets are not as safe as they are being put out there as. and people should realize this before starting them.

I think things are getting a little off track.

could you please define "crash" what happened in your system that you felt was a crash?
