Would this be too much light? I found a 250w mh light and ballast for 100 bucks. Just wondering if I should scoop it up?

Not if you keep it 12 to 16 inches above the tank.

Thanks 2 in 10, I'm kinda undecided whether or not I want to take my power compact fixture off and switch to this. I'd have to find a fixture to run actincs on also.

Ok its an ice caps fixure and ballast, he said the bulb name starts with a G, so idk what kind of bulb it is. He said the bulb is 3 months old. So this is a good deal?

Well if the light is 12" above the tank, how can I run a fixture for actinics and not cast a shadow into the tank?

I run a 250 watt 14k phoenix on a lumatek ballast over a 20g tall. You will be fine.

I have an extra single bulb 36" pc fixture, ill probably buy an actinic bulb for it and use that with the mh. How will this puppy effect the water temp being a foot away?
