    NEED HELP!

Need design ideas for a 265 gallon NON drilled tank I am getting this weekend. I have a 100 and a 150 set up but both are drilled with overflow that allow me to use a sump configuration.

I had an overflow box on a 55 gallon years ago and hated it hence I switched to drilled tanks. The elbows fill with air. (I know now there are pumps to continuously suck it out). Glass company told me tank couldn't be drilled cause it's tempered...????? Is that true????

Any way I am looking for ideas on filter systems. Would somehow like to use a sump (30 gal to 55 gal) under it.

A thought I have been throwing around is use of an external pump similiar to a pool/spa pump say 3/4 to 1 HP and use a prefilter sponge and discharge through two Ocean Clear 340 filters. Would like to use a protein skimmer too but don't know how with this set up other that hang on ones like Coralife Super Skimmers (like two 220's).

Any ideas would be helpful. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the glass company said its tempered you cant drill it or you will by buying a new tank. Is the whole thing tempered? Reef octopus makes a skimmer large enough for that tank Im getting a 300gal skimmer for mine but they make i think all the way up to a 400gallon.

    Hello,

The temp. may only be on the bottom glass should have a stamp saying temp. Check with company regarding your tanks back glass if not temp. drill overflow at the back. I have set up many tanks this way, then you can use lower watt pumps. The large pool pumps 3/4 to 1 hp will cost an arm and leg to run and are not quite.

If you are getting a 265 gallon tank, I would hope to see you have a larger sump. On my 125gal I am running a 55 gallon sump. You might be able to drill on the side of the tank as many folks on this site have done before with great results.
Also something to take into consideration, with the tank that size do you have a large enough container/unit for RODI water? what kind of powerheads will you be using and what type of lighting do you have?
