Well I recently built a new algae scrubber, and have been reading mixed opinions on what the best bulbs are for the lighting. Some people say you should use nothing other than 6500k, others say nothing other than 2700k. I built a small test model ATS (just to see if i could build one) and used the 6500k light I use for my fuge, and within 1 week I already had a thick layer of brown algae growing. I now have a bigger, better, and double sided scrubber, and am currently running one side with a 6500k, and the other with a 2700k for the time being.

What's everyones opinion on which bulb would be better for growing algae? I have an extra of both bulbs, so switching one out would be no problem at all. I appreciate any input, as I can't really get a solid answer online anywhere and I trust everyone's opinion here!

Either should work well. Since you are running them on opposite sides I would use the ones that give you the best growth.

Ya I figured I might try it with one of each for a few weeks and see if one out does the other one, unless someone recomends using one over the other

Well after the first week of doing a different light on each side.. The side with the 6500K bulb had some thick, slimy, dark brown algae growth on it. The side with the 2700K bulb had some light to dark green algae growth. So I'm thinking the 2700K bulb will work better for the algae I'm wanting to grow. I switched the 6500K bulb out with a 40W 2700K bulb and only time will tell if it makes a difference
