I am starting a 29 gallon nano reef, I decided to go from FOWLR to Reef after I was offered by my friend at my new fish store (which just opened up and is awesome) a nice T5 setup, It just needs a baste or w/e it is which I'm going to pick up soon. I put like 24 pounds of live rock 10 snails in yesterday and I put 4 on the rocks and I was wondering if this is okay or they should all be on the sand (1 was upside down when I woke up and seems dead, Oh well, Probably going to throw in 2 cleaner shrimp and these reptile looking things I saw at the store which look AWESOME)

Also was wondering if any of these Protein skimmers are alright I wanna put it on the right of the tank next to the heater.

NIB JEBO Protein Skimmer 180 w/Power Head Hang on - eBay (item 190338737895 end time Mar-29-10 16:29:41 PDT)

JEBO 178 AQUARIUM TANK HANG-ON PROTEIN SKIMMER FILTER - eBay (item 150415819996 end time Mar-20-10 17:52:49 PDT)

I'm not looking to spend too much and I think the 2nd one looks good, Get some more motion on the right side while the powerhead on the left takes care of that side but I need opinions.

I really don't want to spend too much on a skimmer as I don't have much money and want to get some Clowns and Damsels and some nice corals.

I'm starting to love this hobby.

Oh, And how do you think the setup is looking? ;) Trying to do everything right.

Edit: I see some sort of weird planty thing on the top of one of my snails shells and on a piece of live rock, What is it and should I be concerned? - http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=o0b97a&s=6

Mister Tickle = do you have lots of friends all called Mister?

nice looking tank by the way
those snails are fine on the rock, the glass and sometimes the sand - they prefer the rock and the glass though IME and only visit the sand to get between one and the other

I have no idea what the reptile looking things are ? can you get a name
cleaner shrimps - you want you tank set up a few months really as they are very sensitive creatures

all 4 of those protien skimmers you posted are Jebo brand and the consensus is they are not very efficient at all

look on craigs list or other local for sale boards (here even) for either an AquaC remora, reef octopus, coralife, SWC - these will be better for you than the Jebo models above

the weird planty thing is a harmless fan worm or tube worm - they are filter feeders and are great to have in your tank

    hope the above helps

    Welcome to 3 reef
