    Howdy all,

As some of you may have noticed in the ASAP forums that both my display and my sump tanks sprung some major leaks this week. Transfered everything into some handy rubermaid containers (60 gallons worth of temp aquarium for 14.37 @ Wal-Mart) and so far so good. When I originally started I wasn't a member of 3reef, so this time the build will be documented. In addition I may need some 2nd opinions, as I've never had a major problem with my tank but I'm always looking for the best way to do things.

So with that said, I wanted to everyones opinions about tanks, AGA or Acrylic? From my understanding acrylic scratches if you look at it funny, but has a super long service life. My AGA never scratched much (but I rarely had my hands in the tank), but sprung leaks. Sugjestions/Comments?

And as a heads up, I already have everything I need for the 29gallon, so even though Id like to upgrade. My pocket book and limited space wont allow for it. :-/

It really depends on your pocket book. the glass aquarium will definitely be cheaper. If you want on a glass aquarium buy aquarium safe silicone (GE silicone I Do NOT buy silicone II it has anti-bacterial chemicals that will kill your tank) and silicone over all of the seams.

Acrylic can fail at the seams also, but it is much lees likely to break from getting hit. You will need to buy cleaning equipment designed for acrylic aquariums. They are also clear as opposed to the green tint of glass.

When I eventually upgrade, I'm going for acrylic. I've just seen so many here locally that have impressed me. Plus, the last few earthquakes here have made me start thinking about structural integrity. I'm really buying it for some peace of mind.

Didn't think about the seams on the acrylics. I'll have to look into a seamless. Thanks for the info 2in10

Welcome, it is a very rare occurrence on commercially made tanks.
