Built a new overflow because of some problems I was having with the old one. The water level would start rising because the overflow wasnt keeping up and then all the sudden catch right back up. So new overflow and pvc piped all the way to the tank, before I used vinyl tubing for part of it. Also this way I will use a filter sock instead of filter floss.

i've removed all socks and sponges, they slow things down and i feel like between my CuC and natural filtration + skimmer there is no need IMO to catch all the smaller things, just builds up and adds to maintenance,

The ASM-G2 looks super beast. Rated up to 200g? Puts my Slim Skim to shameeeee

I would be scared to not run a sponge! It catches so much crap it's insane! I throw mine into the washer by its self and run a double rinse.

I want to run a smaller level particulate filter (a sock) to prevent the detritus and sand build up I get in the sump that gets through the filter floss. Taking everything out of the sump to shop vac it isn't fun. Yes the skimmer is a beast but takes up so much room I think I want to sell it and get a slim skim

only sponge I have running right now is a benecifical bacteria black sponge I have drapped inside my HOB that runs through my Fuge, this does catch a lot of nasties but isn't it better to have good flow and natural filtration instead of catching all sorts of junk into a sock? either way that junk becomes food for something else, but if it's collected in a sock it does not do much good

Man idk why but I'd be scared to run my system w/o a sock. Plus my sock controls my micro bubbles so that's always a win.

a sock should not be your cure for micro bubbles, take the time to find the source - that's what I did and I have zero now. Try redirecting flow in your fuge, this will cause bubbles to flow away from your pump. I achieved this by adding a HOB to the fuge, all bubbles collect and pop underneath where the HOB water returns to the fuge

    Got a question....

I was going to use this overflow idea for my biocube 29 but didn't have the room...so, instead I used it on a 20g frag tank that I just set up no too long ago. I have run into some issues though. The 1 inch pvc overflow isn't keeping up with my return pump from the 10g fuge/sump. I have a vinyl tube for the return to the frag tank now. Should I add a T into the return with a ball valve on the side portion and just direct that back into the fuge/sump OR should I make up another overflow and just drain more water downwards???

I guess another option would be to use larger pvc for a new overflow. I found somewhere that 1" pvc will gravity feed 600 gph and my return pump is rated at 750 gph. If I add a second 1" overflow I would have 1200gph capacity or if I stick with one overflow with 1 1/4" I could get 910 gph gravity feed capacity. BUT, I am not sure if this is correct measurements since this is a gravity overflow or if its measurements form straight line overflow.

I really want to get this figured out because my frag tank is not looking the best right now and the additional biological filtrations would be very beneficial. Luckily I mostly have zoas and they seem to be just fine in dirtier water. Got a lot of nuisance algae right now though...UGH.

    Thanks for any advice!!
