Nice aquascape...dramatic lighting and lots of room for frags.

Thanks Mr.Bill! I wasn't really looking for a shortcut just more curiosity than anything : ) I saw a video on a popular youtube aquarium blogger and he seemed to have great success with it so I figured what the heck! I am still going to take my time and wait a while before adding any livestock.

Thanks Seano! The lighting is just a basic marineland reefready led that I got a really good deal on. It is a bit on the white 10k side for my likings. I am going to add another strip eventually to get a bit more of a Blue look.

I, too, prefer to err on the side of caution; however, you will need to feed the bacteria with some type of ammonia source, otherwise it will die and your tank will cycle again when you do add livestock, most likely killing everything.

FWIW, ammonia from fish waste is "time-released", leaching slowly from it as it decays. You would be good to go on adding your first 1 or 2 fish when your ammonia and nitrites reach zero.

my original was to get nitrites and ammonia to 0 then add one more dose of ammonia to get it back up to 2ppm to make sure the bacteria is established. Once that reaches 0 I was going to add a clown

So exactly 3 weeks and my cycle is complete. The past week I have had high nitrites at or above 5ppm and 0 ammonia for about 2 weeks now. I have been dosing 2ppm ammonia about every other day. Tuesday my nitrites dropped down to 0 and ammonia 0. I dosed 2ppm one more time to be sure on Wednesday morning and today when I got home both were at 0 again.

Poor planning on my part but my initial plan was to go with the kiss method on this tank. It was to be a basic FOWLR and maybe a few hardy corals. My 3 year old son is having issues with it in his room (doesn't like the noise) so I am moving it to my office.

I figure While I am moving everything I might as well go big. I am going to install a 700gph gl******* overflow and a sump with skimmer. I have a spare 29g that I bought for my 65g build that I am going to paint the back and drill and then swap everything from this tank into that. Also going to build a DIY stand with a footprint that will allow for a 20L as the sump.

For lighting I am thinking of a the AI vega color. Not too sure though. Kinda want to wait and see what director has to offer.

Decided to scratch the 65g tank in the TV room. I am going to eventually finish the basement and do a 220 predator build down there but I think the 29 will tide me over for a bit : ) I will get some pics up soon. I am thinking 2 clowns and a midas blenny for livestock and maybe a valentini puffer eventually. For coral just going to do some easy LPS and Softies. Will get some more pic soon :)
