29gal and skimmer?

    would i need a skimmer for a 29gal reef tank or could i just do weekly water changes?

    I always suggest a skimmer - the fact remains that you can avoid one. water changes will remove DOC's as you replenish elements.

    Agreed 100%.

    Your corals can survive without a skimmer.
    But not having one will put a lot more reliance on steady weekly water changes. A skimmer will give you some buffer in that respect while maintaining higher water quality the entire time.
    But you can certainly keep a pristine reef tank without a skimmer.

    If you do decide to get one buy a name brand, Get one that is rated for 2xs the total water vol. of your sys.
    Research and read reviews.
    Check out equip. forums on various sites.
    There are alot of good and bad skimmers out there.
    Also make sure it will fit on your tank.
    IMO you will spend no less then $180 and no more than $300 for a good HOB skimmer.
