I have 1 inch small clownfish I had for a year, I want another clown in my 34 gallon tank. Which size clown fish would you recommand if I wanted to try pair them? I dont know what type of percula it is though

I'm not quite sure I follow. You know it's a percula, or you think it's a percula? If you know it's a percula, you need to get one that is still a male, as yours is now a female and it's best if it's one that has never been separated from other perculas.. So, the simplest way to do this is to find a bach of tank raised perculas, that have been together and get one of the smaller ones.

in your case if your clown is only 1" I would add a larger one of the same species so it becomes the female. It can be tough to pair up clowns that aren't together to begin with. I have not been succesfull in trying the times I did.

Wouldn't risk it, it should be a female by now regardless of the size if it's been alone for a year. By themselves they typically begin to turn female within a few weeks. Once the change starts it's irreversible, regardless of how long it takes to complete. By a year, it almost certainly is a female already. Adding another female will result in death.

Oh I didn't know clowns changed that early on, as all I've read seemed to advise adding a smaller or larger clown to pair them up. In your case I would shoot for a smaller clown than for a pair up attempt.

It may be preferable to add a larger one for territorial reasons, however, this would need to be done within a few weeks of adding the first (at the longest). After a year, it is too late though. I guess unless there is a lot of BPA in the water or something maybe j/k ;D

Mkizla, the best way to tell a perc from an oc is usually price. Sounds like an OC. Probably good for pairing actually as they are less aggressive generally.
