I am looking at the taotronics fixtures, and I'm wondering if it would be better to do two of the 120 w fixtures, or just one of the new 212 w fixtures? The 212 would be a little cheaper, and the fixtures look much nicer, but can I sacrafice the power on a 4' tank? It is/will be perdominantly LPS, but I might add a frag or two of sps front and center at some point.

    Thanks everyone!

At this point I'm leaning toward the 212w, unless it just won't cut it...

Well how high are you going to be hanging the lights from? If it's not more than like 8" from the water I don't think 1 fixture is going to cut it on a 4' tank.

I could completely off-base, but I'd say go with the 212w.

The size on the 212w is listed as 382*283*85mm, which comes out to something around 15" long by 11" wide. My rudimentary math suggest that you'd only need to hang the fixture about 8" above the water surface to see 48" of coverage (obviously, you'll have a steep drop in PAR near the edges).

I just ordered the 212w with 48blue and 24white leds. I also like that the 212w fixture has optics. We will see what the coverage looks like in a week or two, when they arrive...

I'm very quite sure just one fixture wont cut it. Just cause it has a high number of LE's have to look at the placement & pattern. 15" light to cover a 48" inch spread? Dimension wise it isnt a whole lot bigger footprint that the other light which reaches a 2 x 2 area. 3-4 iches of lighting arent gonna cover 2 additional feet of length.
