Thanks. I have been pretty happy with the 3 gallon but it's time to move on. The light that's on that tank is an ledtric full spectrum par 38. I love that light.

I might go up to home depot today to get some lumber for a stand. I think DIY is the best way to go. It's much cheaper as well. Anyone good with building stands? I've never done it before.

I just realized I have never transferred livestock and live rock from one tank to another. What's the best method you guys have used?

get two big buckets. fill them up with water from your tank and place the rocks and corals in one bucket and the live stock in the other. after that, start filling up the new tank with the old water, live rock and sand. let it settle for a while and get the filter and heater and everything else running then slowly add your livestock in the 40 gallon. the tank shouldn't cycle unless you do a BIG water change or add new SW in the new tank. maybe add a bit of water every day or so but not all at once or it'll cycle the tank.

Well I'll only have about 17 gallons combined from both tanks and that's if I use all of the water. I'm wondering if I'd be better off starting brand new and letting the new tank cycle.
