I had 1 175 MH and 4 T5's on my old 65 gal and it would get too hot so I had to cut down to 4 hours of the MH a day. If I read correctly that you were considering 3 175 MH's? I would say no for 2 reasons. Unless you plan on a chiller forget it and 2 be very careful of the plastic brace in the middle of a 48" tank as it will melt from the heat. Good luck with your tank!

It's not growing on the back of my tank hardly at all. My rock is getting covered but that's about it. Coraline is a wierd thing. It doesn't seem to like mh at all. And I second what marlinman said. Make sure you have enough fans to get rid of the mh heat.

3 will not do the center brace will melt and a 75 is just a little shorter then a 90 and 2 175's o them are not much at all . So being limited to just 2 lamp reflectors I'd get 2 reefoptix reflectors and run 250 D.E with a good 14 K lamp.. for the main lighting of 6 to 8 hrs aday then get some good 420nm actinic bulbs in the T5 for the 16 to 18 hrs aday actinic lighting. Save yourself heat money and time ..

More M/H then needed really, It's never high noon all day anywhere 8 hrs is plenty and the actincs at 16 to 18 hrs. works very well for coloration and less heat and elect. used ..
