3 inch of sand for 29g. Is that bad or good? or is it just normal?
Most of the pics i see from other posters or videos, dosnt look like 3 inch.

I have 40 lb of live sand.

Just what it says. A sand bed that is deep. Average is about 2. 3 is good for a nano cause i'm sure your looking into gobies and some types like deeper sand beds.

a deep sand bed is just that, usually 4-6 inches
and the hope is that the lower portions get lower circulation and oxygen levels
which is where denitrifying bacteria live,
apposed to the nitrifying bacteria that live in the upper portion.

just a kind of extra filtration

just google it and read a couple articles on it

I would steer clear of the DSB. IMO, a 1.5 to 2 inch sand bed is about right.

Ya..i wanted to get rid of some too, because having that thick of sand dosnt look too pretty. How would i get rid of it? I think i am still in cycle process. At the moment i am on diatom the brown algae stage. Should I wait to get rid of sand? or now?

Now would be a good idea , its only later when its been in a while that problem can arise from DSB that are moved about

I ll do it tomorrow..since its 1:35 am here in CA =p
Anyway tomorrow, how should I take out the sand? and also Should I put fish into a bucket while I do this?

So its okay to disturb the sand while the sand its full with brown algae?

If its the diatom stage, brown dust type covering of sand, rocks, glass etc then it wont make any difference
how long has it been in there

if only a couple of weeks or so, not much going on at all in there, so scoop some out and then spread whats left to give even layer
water may go cloudy for a bit, but thats about all
