do the little bugs look like little white grains of rice if so then sounds like pods and very good for a tank it shows that it is maturing they are great detrius eaters

if they are not little white grains of rice but rather black or somthing else then they could be baby snails or tiny blue leg hermit crabs or somthing else

Yeah they look like rice with legs kind of. Very tiny though I have to look for them to see them, but once my eyes focus there are a bunch of em. Kind of look like white miniature (very mini) centepedes I would say.

Sweet! I've never had such a stressful hobby in my life, but I am glad pretty much everything I am discovering in my tank is for the better! (minus the sick fish)

To the first question: yes, your crabs, especially hermit crabs, will eat your snails to get their larger shells (unless you have an abundance of extra large shells laying around your tank).

To the second question: If these bugs are tiny little semi-transparent white guys, then they may be pods, a welcome addition to any reef tank and many inverts and fish feed on them.

Back to the stomatella question. Yes, they do multiply quite rapidly. I never said they were a bad snail to have, but they do reach a very large population at a very quick pace. And yes, I have seen my emerald crab eat them before, however I have no pics of this, and nothing to back up this fact, but If I do see it happen again, I will be sure to post pics ;)

ahhh ok I just had never heard of the emerald crabs eating snails or beeing carnivorous in any way

but I also am a firm believer that you never stop learning and this is somthing new that I have learned
