Are 250w halides too strong for a 125? The tank is only 20" deep. Reaon I ask is I found a current USA Sunpod 3 x 250w fixture for a great price. I just got done building a 6 x 80w T5 canopy and now this comes my way and well I want to be able to keep any kind of coral so i planned on using the sunpod 3 x 250w, but it says not to mount in a canopy, i'd still like to use a couple of my T5s for actinics.

I have 3 250s over my 125. Everything seems happy. My anemone just split for the second time this weekend and my clam is on the sand and I have had it there for a year now. Also my other corals open up daily without fail. So I say it's pretty much perfect.

The only you may need to keep in mind is the temperature, besides that, they would be great.

That was my other concern. Would using the 3 x 250s require a chiller? How high up off the water do the lights need to be? And using 14,000k bulbs are actinic supplements needed also?

If you get a good 14000 bulb then actinics are not needed. They come with crappy Current bulbs that dont last and the color is not that good. Phoenix are nice color bulbs at a good price

No chiller on mine and I would say mine are about 6 or 7 inches from the surface of the water. My fixture isn't hanging, it's on legs. I don't have heat issues.
