Just fyi Mag Drive pumps are water cooled and are not intended for external use.Great build!!
If you haven't already done so I would replace it with a pump rated to run externally.

    Thanks Vinny.

Danner mag-drive pumps say they can run external from just about every supplier that sells them, however, I definitely wouldn't recommend it. There seems to be some mixed opinions online about this too. This is the first time I have ran one externally. The pump runs noisy plus it leaked. I siliconed the outlet housing to the pump and it hasn't leaked since. I chose the mag-drive incase one day I do add a sump to the system and it would be submerged at that point. I have owned a MAG 5, Mag 12, and MAG 18. The 5 and the 18 were stupid noisy and I had to discontinue use on both of them. The MAG 18 impeller blew up on the first day. Not a fan of MAG drive anymore. I was hoping the smaller MAG 5 would be quieter, boy was I wrong.

Due to the noise, I only run it in increments of 30 minutes about 5x a day to add extra random flow and to stir up anything that would settle on the bottom. flow is supplemented with Hydor's on a wave maker.

That reef octo sounds like a nice little pump, my mag 7 ran strong but never completely silent in the bottom of my sump

Reef octopus is one of my favorite brands. Especially bubble blaster pumps.

I think im going to rescue a kryptonite candy cane from Petco. I think someone local is supplying them frags. I wouldn't really expect that at petco.
