I was wondering if someone could suggest a specific protein skimmer.....I have a 300 gallon FOWLR tank and will have a heavy bio load.

I know a lot of people have stated who they think makes the best skimmers, but I have a specific need and wanted to see if anyone had a specific skimmer for that need.

    Thanks for all the help!!!

we sell the SWC Extreme 300A that might be what you are looking for.

Is this 300 G total volume or just the tank?

We also carry bigger skimmers if you need.

Check out our stuff at www.swcskimmers.com

I am sure you will get other opinions on what is best!
I believe we have excellent products and customer service for sure!

    Thanks,
    C.J.

I would over size the skimmer if you are already planning on a heavy load on it. I use Bullet Series by PM and like what it does for me. Really depends on your budget.

Sorry....300 gallon is the size of the tank. It has (2) internal overflows plus there will be 450# of live rock and a 2 - 3" sand bed so that will be less than 300#, but then we have to take into consideration the wet/dry which problably has 10 gallons of actually water in it???

I'm looking at a ProClear 400 wet/dry......any feed back on that?

    Thanks for all input

    CJ,

Why would you choose the Extreme 300A over the 250 or 300, both the 250 and 300 are cheaper plus handle high bio loads? Also the foot print is smaller on the 250, so that might help me fit it in the sump.

    Thanks,
    Jack

The 300A has only 1 pump...the Askoll. The other skimmers 250 and 300 would also work great and do have higher bioload. I currently have the 250 in my own sump on my 265G reef tank. It does a great job.
In my opinion all of these skimmers are well balanced skimmers.
The only reason the 300A is more expensive is the Askoll pump.
If you have 1 pump instead of 2 then less to go wrong.

It really comes down to personal preferance...but I am confident you would be happy with any of them.

    Thanks,
    C.J.

Guys, I know this is a major noob question....but....when it talks about the water depth, is it talking about the level of water when you submerge the skimmer in to the sump?

    yes you are correct Jack
so on occassions if your water level in the sump is deeper than the advised depth for best skimmer efficiency - you have to put a little shelf to set skimmer at correct depth

I recommend the SWC 300A. I just got mine in last week and you wouldn't believe all the stuff it has pulled out of my 400 gal reef system. It has been amazing!!!
