Wow, I am suprised this has been as unbalanced of an opinion as it is.
But I stick by my guns either way. Get the wide dude, you will be very pleased. Wide and shallow, the way I like my tanks and women ;)

Personally, I would do a square. I dont know the dimensions that would create 300 gallons but i think square tanks are very impressive when they are large because it gives an amazing base to create some fancy aqua-work. I personally want a tank 48'' x 48'' and 24''(H).
Its hard for squares though because they take up alot of room. and since your putting into a wall a square doesnt really make sense. But thats my opinion anyhow.
    Good luck

Squares are cool, but this tank is going to be an in-wall. Wouldn't work

Well since space is not an issue why not do 30 wide and 30 tall. As mentioned by other people 30 inches will be very hard to reach the bottom. You will need a good set of tongs, but that extra 6 inches if depth can really make a tank look amazing. If I had to choose I would choose wide like everyone else. If I had the space and finances I would do both :).
