LOL Well speaking from experience and having had a large tank a 750 I chose to have mine built longer and wider and shorter then another guy who had us plumb and install his .. Mine was 25" his was 36" every time he saw mine he said he wished he had done that same thing LOL I told him . We both ordered them at the same time to get a really good price and split the common carrier delivery cost.. shorter offers easier and better and far more even lighting and far more surface to air area and far less pumping to move the water from bottom to top and I got by with a 1Hp 12,500 pump he had a 2.5 20,000 gph pump .. mine ran on 6amp his was 13 amps heat factors also .. He needed all 12 1000 watt M/H I used mostly 10. 400 and 2. 1000 watts Just more $$$ savings ...and better coral health and Moe money Mow money Moe money for corals LOL tanks like that frags do not work LOL its football size minimal or you loose them in there :) And at the end of the day I could reach the bottom of mine he was about a ft or more to short on arm length .

I enjoy wider tanks as well. 30" is too tall in my opinion.

I would go Wide as well. But why not 96X30X30.

My current tank is 78LX36WX30T. If I had to change anything it would be the height but I haven't run into too many cases that I could not reach the bottom. Just invest in a good mask and snorkel

Thanks to everyone on their opinion; you confirmed the direction I was leaning with a wide tank. It's going to be viewable only on 2 sides (one long edge, one short edge) so now I get to decide how far from the floor it's going to be. I'll be ordering the tank soon so I can start working on framing the walls. I will keep everyone posted with some WIP pics. Unfortunately, this project is #4 on the "to-do" list behind a remodel of my home theater, a main floor laundry, and a fence... whew, I'm tired just thinking of all that stuff...

    Thanks again everyone!

Well how else would I get women? Connecting on a deep and emotional personal level? Pfffft.

Good choice on the wide dude! Make sure to start a dedicated build thread for it. Can't wait to see the progress!

When considering how far off the ground to set the tank... Consider first view-ability, then consider all of the time you will have your hands in the tank and if you want to stand on something to enable you to reach the bottom or not...

We have just setup a new 120g and balanced the final height of the top of the tank to give the best viewing and require me to stand on nothing taller than a 1' tall folding plastic step to reach the bottom center line of the tank. I can clean the glass with out needing the step... so the tank height was driven more by the fact that I'm only 5' 6"...
